bouquet of of roses

May Day

And I’m not talking about a distress call.  When I was a child, on May 1, I would take small bouquets of flowers picked from our garden and set them on the front porch of neighbors’ houses, ring the doorbell and run and hide.  But I would hide somewhere so that I could see the reaction when the owner came out and found the gift. This wasn’t an expensive gift, nor was the flower arrangement anything to brag about, but the smiles that the bouquets would generate were real.

You can read the short story of Tabitha (or Dorcas) in Acts 9. She wasn’t a preacher and she didn’t perform miracles, but the work she did created smiles for the people who received the garments that she made. The clothes were evidence of a life of service, with kindness sewed into each piece.

Her story shows us that acts of service and small gifts to
others leave a lasting impact. Don’t underestimate the power of your kindness.  When you give your time and care to others, you shine Jesus’ love to others. You may feel like you’re just doing “little things,” but in God’s kingdom, those little things are often the most powerful.
